Safeway provides healthy refreshments for Tech fun run

The Waikiki School Tech Fun Run Fundraiser to generate needed computers and electronic equipment took place on Friday, February 15th. Project Green Waikiki coordinated with Safeway Kapahulu to provide an organic, nutritious and waste-free snack for the runners. The children definately appreciated the refreshing juice, oranges and bananas after completing their fifteen minute run.

We are grateful to Safeway for not only providing the donated produce but for recognizing the importance of serving organic fruits and vegetables to our children.

Project Green was able to create a waste-free event. The compostable, biodegradable cups are currently composting outside the A Building along with the fruit peels. The juice bottles were recycled and the eight paper cartons are being reused in a 4th-grade art project.

Thanks to all the volunteers who generously shared their time serving refreshments to the kids.

Project Green Launches Recycling Campagn with "It Starts With a Can"

On February 8th, the Opala Players entertained and delighted the students of Waikiki School with an educational skit about the 3R's: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. The "Trash Sensei" engaged the audience with his catchy tune, "It's piling up... so watcha gonna do?" about the excessive waste in our society.

So what are we going to do? Well, the phrase is now the subject of an art contest for all Waikiki students. The deadline for entries of two-dimensional artwork is March 7th. Winners will be announced the week of March 10-14 with a winner from each grade level to receive a prize. The Trash Sensei will be the judge.
